Rugby to Nice, the Promenade des Anglais renamed "Promenade des Écossais"

26 July 2019

RUGBY FRANCE – SCOTLAND IN NICE FIRST ON 17 AUGUST 2019

"Nice, Alpes-Maritimes on the French Riviera, the Scottish touch."

The Promenade des Anglais this August 17, 2019, will be the promenade of Scottish supporters still as many to follow their team and this time on the Riviera. We hope that for the French it will not be a ride of the XV du Chardon that would put a little more in doubt in the head of our Cocks but a match that will predict future possibilities for the World Cup. The XV Habs gave us hope at the 2019 6 Nations tournament.

The Allianz Riviera has been selected to host the first official preparation match at the World Cup on August 17 at 21:00 against Scotland. This will be an opportunity for Nice and France to wish their team good luck ahead of the 2019 World Cup Rugby in Japan (September 20 to November 2, 2019)

This will be the ninth edition of this competition held every four years since 1987. France is 8th nation in the World Rugby rankings behind Scotland and ahead of 14th Italy.

The last two confrontations between Scotland and France resulted in one victory each (in 2018 and 2019). The Scottish Flag stamped Milroy had already made the trip to the hotel le Negresco in June 2017 (happy coincidence?)

Since 2018, the Auld Alliance Trophy in memory of Eric Milroy, Marcel Burgun and rugbymen who died for France during the First World War. France currently holds the trophy which will be put back on the line in Murrayfield on 8 March 2020.

Will these three games be considered test matches ?

The XV de France will have three matches in August 2019 to gain strength before the Rugby World Cup in Japan: Les Bleus will meet Scotland twice, then Italy.

The Challenge between Adam Hastings (10 or 15), son of Gavin and nephew of Scott Hastings , both former internationals (Scott is also a reporter for the BBC, he was present in Amiens in February 2019 to commemorate his own) and Romain Ntamack will be exciting to follow.

Preparation match, all broadcast on TV
17/08/19: France – Scotland France 2 - 9pm
24/08/19: Scotland – France France 2 - 2pm
30/08/19: France – Italy TF1 - 9pm

A nod to David Bolgashvili coach of Stade Niçois Rugby playing Federal 1 (just below the PRO D2 their goal in 2021) and former coach of the Lille Métropole Rugby.
It must be said that the club of Nice has an important support of a Scottish sponsor and also a partnership with the Scottish Rugby Union allowing it to have four U20 of the XV of the Chardon in their rank. This is also the case in the Women’s Top 16 for the LMRCV Club with the presence of two Scottish internationals in Lille, Jade KONKEL having joined the London Harlequins for the 2018/2019 season.
